Language school Hispano Continental

I’ve spent three months brushing up on my Spanish, and it’s been an amazing experience! The teachers are very qualified and experienced, and what really stood out is how much they genuinely cared about making sure I had the best learning experience and a great time in Salamanca. Plus, they’re incredibly friendly, which made everything even better.

Oh, and the school’s location couldn’t be more perfect—it’s right in the heart of beautiful Salamanca!

This is my 4th time returning to Hispano Continental. I come back here again and again, because this school feels like a family. The instructors are always smiling; they are genuinely happy with their colleagues and work. If you’d like, the staff can find room and board with a Spanish host family and the cost is cheaper than any hotel. You will be safe, because someone is expecting you during the day and at night. You don’t have to worry about finding a hotel, food shopping, doing laundry, or cooking. You can concentrate on learning Spanish language and culture. You will practice understanding and speaking, because you need to use it at home. This is the BEST way to learn! The Spanish spoken in Salamanca is Castilian Spanish, the official Spanish. Hispano Contental will prepare you to pass the official DELE Spanish tests. Classes are between 2-8 students, unlike at a university and the cost of classes couldn’t be more reasonable. I’ve found that the teachers structure each course to meet the weaknesses of the students. The classes are really fun and the school is very close to the city center. They also offer at least one weekly after-school activity and they are happy to advise you on how to explore on your own or with a few classmates. Salamanca is a very clean and safe city; there are lots of people in the streets at every hour of the day and night. I feel safer walking around there than I do at home. You will form instant friendships with your classmates from all over the world. I enjoyed daily coffee breaks with classmates from all different countries! While I was there this year, I needed to go to a doctor. Even though my Spanish is pretty good, a staff member went with me to the hospital, ensured that I could navigate to the right places, made sure that I understood what the doctor said, that I understood the treatments, and that I knew where to get my prescription filled. What a relief! Hispano Continental can also sell you extremely reasonable Medical Insurance for the length of your classes if you need it.

When it comes to language immersion in Spain, Salamanca is hard to beat. Hispano Continental makes both individual and group arrangements a breeze, providing lots of flexibility. This is our second year bringing high school students, and they absolutely love the experience. María, Xili, Rosa, and their team go above and beyond to accommodate all our students & staff needs: classes, cultural activities, selection of host families, etc., all in a very caring and professional environment. Students can earn undergrad credits as they attend classes here, which they can transfer later to their college, becoming an unbeatable alternative to pay regular tuition, especially for US students. A small school in a lovely clean modern building in a quiet part of the old town. There is a small garden for relaxing during break times. All the staff are very attentive and welcoming. I chose this school after visiting others in Salamanca and finding this one to be the most congenial.

Like many other schools, the lessons are based around the school's thick, ring-bound book of grammar exercises. This is a very traditional (out-dated) method of language teaching which limits the teachers ability to use modern technology and more communicative methods. I feel a more skills-based integrated approach would have lifted this review rating above average.

Be aware that a classroom hour is 50 minutes, not 60 minutes, which means there are 16.66 hours of class each week.

The school provided me with a really nice private room in a shared 5th floor apartment in the old part of town. I was really happy with everything about this accommodation. There was no air-conditioning for those hot summer months, but the price was cheap enough to allow me to buy a fan. Be aware that all accommodation starts on Sunday and the final leaving day is always Saturday. So the final week of accommodation is only 6 nights, although you will pay for 7.

I took a group of high school students to Hispano Continental and would do it again in a heartbeat (I am now at the university level.) The administration was professional, kind, timely, responsible, and patient, and attended to our every need. The teachers were prepared, extremely knowledgeable and seemed to genuinely love what they were doing. Our students had excellent experiences with their host families, and felt truly cared for. The excursions and experiences organized by the school were valuable, culturally rich, fun, and interesting. I also appreciated the central location of the school, and its cleanliness, brightness, and modern amenities. I feel like we had a fairy tale trip, and give much of that credit to the school due to its high standards and caring atmosphere. I highly recommend Hispano Continental.

I had a really nice time in this school ! Salamanca is generally an incredible city ! But these teachers a the most generous I ever met ! If you're sick they gonna call you and be sure you don't need anything and the can go buy medicines and bring them to you ! The classes are with maximum 8 people that permite you to learn really quickly ! In three monthes i went from an A1 level to a small B2 and I'm really happy with it ! I recommend this school 100% and gonna Talk about it around me when I will be back in Switzerland ! 😍 Muchas gracias a María, Xili y María José por todo ❤️
