About the school

In the Salamanca district, in the center of Madrid, you will find the growing school AIL. The school is on the first floor of a modern building in a busy street in the luxury district of Goya - named after the Spanish master painter Francisco de Goya, whose works are often found in Spanish museums. Around the corner you will find the Retiro park, one of the largest parks in Madrid, which lends itself perfectly to escaping the hustle and bustle of the city center. In the school itself there is a Chill Out Room with lounge sofas where you can relax, learn and study between classes. Every teacher at the school has Spanish as their mother tongue, so they teach with ease and without any accent. The school attaches great value to the structure and quality of the lessons, which are therefore always well prepared and interactive.

I absolutely loved my time at AIL Madrid! I was there for two weeks and stayed in a ‘shared apartment’ with other AIL Madrid students. The apartment was located 10 minutes away from the school by metro and the school itself is in a wonderful location so this made me extremely happy! The teachers I had (Ana and Pablo) were amazing- very enthusiastic and encouraging, ensuring I was always excited to come to school. The reception staff and administration staff were also very helpful and friendly and my transfers to and from the airport were punctual and the whole experience was stress-free! I can’t wait to come back to AIL Madrid as soon as possible and cannot believe how much my Spanish has improved in just two weeks!

I have been studying at AIL for a few months. At first I had a problem with my teacher and I contacted the support team. I was pleasantly surprised by their response. They talked to me in person in order to better understand my situation and made the appropriate changes so that I was placed in a different class. Since then things have been excellent and I'm enjoying the classes a lot. The night classes manager, Diego, is very patient and works hard to ensure the students are happy. I look forward to continuing my studies there for the foreseeable future.

Undoubtedly some of kindest and most helpful staff I ever met. The teachers here are passionate, patient and very committed to teaching Spanish. The price for classes here is extremely reasonable (I learned A LOT in just a few weeks) and worth every euro. I will surely come back and learn when I have time.

I stayed for a week with a host, took classes everyday, and it was absolutely an amazing experience! As a 17 year old, not only did was I able to explore the amazing city of Madrid, but also improve my Spanish in the most fun and effective way I think I can. All the classes were very engaging and interactive, which made the learning experience so much more enjoyable, together with the host who was absolutely amazing and an amazing cook, so dinners were always delicious. I would recommend this for anyone who is looking to improve their Spanish in a short or even long period of time and be able to enjoy the Spanish culture at the same time!

I spent two weeks during January 2020 studying at AIL Madrid. As an "older" adult whose objective is to develop fluency in the spoken language, but who also wants to understand the rules of grammar, I was pleased to be placed in a class (based on the results of a short written test taken a couple of weeks earlier) that pushed me on my ability to communicate orally, but was entirely appropriate in exposing me to grammar that I'd not previously studied. I give the school kudos for that placement. In addition to 3 1/2 hours of group classes, I also had a 45-50 minute private class thereafter, which was critical and very constructive for me both in better assimilating what had been taught in the group classes and in covering other subjects I identified as of specific interest to me. I also spent 2 1/2 to 3 hours each afternoon/evening on homework (I'm sure some students don't do so, but I was there to "learn" and needed the additional practice).

I'm well educated and a life long learner, who was very pleased with the calibre of teachers and the methodology, even though I largely "winged it" in advance, since I'd not gleaned as much as I might have liked in advance about the system or location -- after all, what website isn't going to accentuate its positives!

Although the school offers social/cultural options late afternoon/early evening, I did not avail myself of those. Instead, I used most evenings to explore or take advantage of cultural offerings of special interest to me.

Regarding housing, I leased a property myself through Airbnb which was about a 25-minute walk (very pleasant) from the school, which is located in the upscale Salamanca barrio/neighborhood (helpful to know, if one is trying to find housing).

Although I'm a guy, I think any woman should feel entirely safe traveling solo in this safe, vibrant community.
