About Expanish

Expanish Barcelona teaches Spanish from a renovated historic building in the Eixample district, a few minutes' walk from La Sagrada Família. Founded in 2017, the school keeps classes small, averaging 9 students and never exceeding 12, so teachers can give you real attention and you get plenty of chances to speak up.

Outside class, four free activities a week and a shared terrace give students regular ways to meet each other. German, Brazilian, American and Swiss students all feature strongly here, with no single nationality making up more than 19% of the mix.

What classes are like at Expanish

Group lessons run Monday to Friday from 09:30 to 13:20, built from 50-minute periods with a course book as the backbone and teachers adding videos and debates around it. Classes stay small, averaging 9 students and never exceeding 12, so there's room to actually talk rather than sit quietly at the back. Your level is checked with an online test before you arrive and confirmed through a short oral conversation once you're in Barcelona. The academic team can move you to a different group within a day or two if the fit isn't right. During busier periods some courses shift into the afternoon or add evening options, with your exact timetable assigned once your level is set.

Social life at Expanish

Afternoon activity

The school includes four free activities each week, scheduled into the afternoon when they take place. These include scavenger hunts, pub quizzes, and Spanish history and phonetics workshops. During busier periods, some courses also add an afternoon component such as Spanish in the City, conversation practice or private lessons.

What you do outside class at Expanish

Four activities a week come free with your course, ranging from a guided walk through the Gothic Quarter to a hands-on cook-and-taste class or a traditional dance session. Some weeks lean cultural, with museum visits or a tapas tasting; others head for the sand, with beach trips built around a picnic and a game of volleyball. Beyond the weekly programme, guided weekend excursions run out to nearby heritage sites, historic towns and beaches.
