About the school

CastiLa was founded in 1988 by a group of Spanish teachers who felt a true passion and enthusiasm for their language and culture. Castila is located in the Albaicin district, an Arab district in the center of Granada overlooking the Alhambra. The area is characterized by an abundance of greenery, narrow car-free streets, graceful fountains and traditional white-painted houses. CastiLa is located in a white, traditional house with beautiful gardens. The school is medium in size, and classes have a maximum group size of 6 students, which keeps the lessons intimate. This means that staff are able to dedicate more time to each student. The school is Cervantes accredited and the teachers are professionally trained, so the quality of the lessons is guaranteed.

Granada

This typical Andalusian town situated at the foot of the mountains has something magical. If you point your nose to the North, you will see the snowy peaks of the Sierra Nevada, while the sun warms the hilly city behind you and turns orange. The Moorish influences in Granada are not to be missed thanks to the Arab buildings and hundreds of castles, culminating in the magical palace complex Alhambra. Granada is the perfect mix between a bustling city with bars and flamenco dance clubs, overwhelming nature, and a fairy tale Arab culture.

I've studied in CastiLa for seven weeks. The teaching material is very good and the teachers also, they put you through an immersive experience and they are always helpful.
Plus the school organizes a lot of after class activities and excursions that are a lot o fun and help you to learn about the local culture.
You can think their prices are a bit high but you have to remember that there was a just (and still) a pandemic.

Castila, like the Albayzin, where it is located, is a special place. I have visited Granada in 3 summers and taken content courses in Spanish on Culture and Business Spanish, as well as private language classes at Castila. I recently came back after studying for a month at Castila in July 2022. What makes this language and culture school so different is that it is a family business and all the teachers know all the students. The language courses are taught by immersion with rotation of instructors each day so they get to know the students and the students know them. You experience a variety of activities and different teaching styles, but the teachers work as a team behind the scenes to develop the best lessons for their classes and make sure they are all in sync with their part for the day.

The staff also leads different (optional) cultural activities 5 days a week in which only Spanish is spoken, which enrich one's cultural knowledge about the city and is another opportunity to practice Spanish. These can be hiking, beach trips, the Alhambra, visits to important sites in the Albayzin, the Parque de Ciencias and more!

If you want a personalized experience, which feeds your mind and soul, in which you know your teachers, and not a "one size fits all" type of program, Castila is where you want to be.

I had booked a long course of study, later left. Natalia was super nice, helping me in everything I needed during the departure. Rafael, on the other hand, is an unreliable person, on whom you can not count. I arrived in Granada on a Sunday and no one welcomed me, as in previous experiences abroad. Plus, they offered me an asphyxiating room in an abandoned residence. They did not even return the money from the course deposit once I decided to go to another schoo

I had an amazing time at Castila. The teachers are really professional and there was always a cohesiveness to the lessons after each change of teacher throughout the day and an identifiable thread either in regard to the topic or grammar point. I liked experiencing the different personalities and techniques of the teachers and always found them very amiable and fun. The afternoon activities are a great way to practice your Spanish and meet new people and also to get to know the beautiful city. The accommodation is also lovely and very central. I would recommend Castila to anyone wanting to improve their Spanish and also have a fantastic cultural experience they will never forget.

This school is the perfect place to learn Spanish language and culture. It offers complete immersion with the most wonderful teachers. They love what they do and that is what makes the biggest diference. You become their family and all your fears of speaking a foreign language disappear. I learned very quickly and they gave me all the right tools to help continue learning when I left.
