One of the best kept secrets of Andalusia is Cádiz. This city, located on a small peninsula with a vast bay, is the oldest inhabited city in Western Europe. You will find an atmospheric old town with narrow streets, nice squares with terraces and beautiful historic buildings. Cádiz is known for its particularly hospitable inhabitants who always laugh and spontaneously start dancing flamenco on small squares. The city has several beautiful beaches of which the most atmospheric one is probably Playa de la Caleta, located in the old town and overlooking the marina.

Coming to the SIC during my gap year was one of the best decisions I've ever made, this may sound exaggerated but I'll explain why it isn't. The way they combine professionalism, good teaching and fun in this school is incredible. After spending 14 years in primary and secondary school I could really feel the difference in atmosphere and style of teaching between a normal school and the Spanish course I followed. The effectiveness of the classes, individual ones and in a group, is, as far as I know, unmatched. In a city like this, which is probably as close to paradise as you can get, the motivation you feel really helps you progress at high speeds. What would set Cádiz apart from other Spanish cities, for example Malaga, is the fact that your surroundings are completely Spanish; both in terms of culture and spoken language. All in all I would 100 percent recommend SIC because of the city, the teachers and the organization. |

This residence could not be more centrally located in Cadiz’s old town; right next to the Mercado and the big Carrefour, near the bus stops where the buses stop to go to the new town, less than 20 minutes’ walk from La Caleta, opposite a big pharmacy and basically right bang on the middle of the high street shops, but more than that it is a friendly safe environment to be in. Staying here for an academic year as an English teacher working in a centrally located language school in Cadiz, it was incredibly convenient, I could choose to have my own private space in order to work or to live in a more communal way in the sociable international environment it provides through providing residence as an airbnb, as a residence for Erasmus student and of course as a residence for students studying at Spanish in Cadiz. Joaquin and Marion, the caretakers of the building took great care of us and the building and especially during the lockdown when Alejandro checked on us through WhatsApp and made to feel safe during this very intense time when for most people in Cadiz normal life had changed dramatically, and financial situation had also changed. Alejandro is kind and efficient in all regards. I highly recommend this residence. |

I have now studied a few times at SIC for a week at a time and my experiences have been really super. First, as a language teacher myself I can attest to the very high quality of the teaching. For example, some of the grammar teaching i have had is second to none; the teachers really know what they are talking about. Secondly, it is a small, friendly school, where after a very short time indeed, you feel part of a little family. As such, conversation classes are always interesting and natural-feeling, as if you are talking to friends. Last, the school is right next to a beautiful beach and surrounded by lots of restaurants and bars. I can't recommend this school enough. I'll be going back there again as soon as I possibly can! |
