San Sebastián

San Sebastian is said to be the most beautiful city on the North Spanish Costa. This stunning city lies between hills, and has a lot to offer: exhilarating beaches ideal for surfing, historic buildings, amazing nature and more. Within the city you can find tasty tapas restaurants, great shopping streets and various events. There is always something to do in the bustling city centre, as many festivals and performances are organized in the central square; in September, the city is always busy with the internationally renowned film festival. Surfing or learning to surf is highly recommended here as the waves are fantastic for both beginners and experienced surfers, which is why the city attracts avid surfers from all over the world.

I did a 12 weeks course on C1 level from September-December 2021 and enjoyed every day. The teachers were nice, the receptionists a beam of sunshine even on the rainiest days, the class size was perfect, the afternoon activities were great and the location was also neat. Thanks to Lacunza I found many new international friends and the woman I was living with also became a good friend. So also thumbs up for choosing good host families. I also found it remarkable that they would make up the missed hours due to a national holiday and then would just start earlier or finish later the other days of the week. You get everything you paid for and even more! Highly recommendable!

I chose this school because it said they had 17 classrooms. I was at a language school once which was so small, multiple levels sat together in the same classroom (which was frustrating at times and had to be impossible for the teacher). So I wanted a school large enough to accommodate all levels in separate classrooms. The seating area, both inside and outdoors, with coffee vending machine was useful too if you didn’t want to go out during break.
It’s just across the river from the main town but an easy walk. Personally I liked the location.
The school is very professionally run and the quality of the teachers great. Rosa is a superb teacher!!
I did the senior course (I’m 58) which was classes 9:30-11 and 11:30-1 with additional 90 minutes in the afternoon. Tuesday we went to the museum. One day we ate out as it was a class member’s birthday. 3 days we stayed in classroom. There were 5 of us who opted for the extra senior group.
I had Lacunza arrange accommodation and I chose a shared apartment. I also requested a private bathroom and preferably, someone of similar age. I ended up staying in the apartment of a mother and daughter who was similar in age to me. A 15 minute walk to school through a nice park. My own bathroom, and use of the kitchen. It was perfect.
The average age when I was there in September seemed to be around 30 but there was a pleasant mix of all ages and nationalities. I was not the youngest by far.
The level of teaching is great.
If you feel like you are in the wrong class level, change it. They seemed very accommodating to this.
Optional activities that I did were the Monday night walk around the city, which was good for bearings. We made one ponchos bar stop and then to a restaurant in a different part of town.
I also did the paddle boarding and a Saturday hike. A lot of the younger people were talking about surfing too.
Highly recommend Lacunza. And absolutely loved San Sebastian.

My 15 year old daughter spent a month at Lacunza and enjoyed every aspect of it. The teachers were great, class sizes and levels were appropriate, the activities were different each week and allowed her to try out new things and get to know the area. It was an unforgettable experience for my daughter.

My 15-year-old son had an AMAZING time at the Lacunza teen summer program. He loved his host family, the activities, the classes, most of all the people he met. We will recommend your program to everyone we know. It was truly a life changing experience and his fluency has improved dramatically.

I studied at Lacunza for 2 weeks the first half of September. This is my second time with the school. My instruction included an hourly daily of private lessons. Im at the C level. The teachers were wonderful and well organized, the classes interesting and there are plenty of social activities planned. I highly recommend Lacunza
