About the school

In one of the most attractive streets in the historic center of Montpellier, Grand Rue Jean Moulin, you will find language school ILA. This street is in the pedestrian zone with many small boutiques, gourmet shops and authentic French cafes. The school building is a stylish mansion dating back to the 18th century, the charming entrance has already been featured several times in books and tourist guides about Montpellier. The school is modernly furnished and fully equipped. In just a few steps from school you arrive at the sunny terraces of Place de la Comédie: the central square of Montpellier with the fascinating opera house. Also the green park Esplanade Charles de Gaulle and many monuments and sights of the historic center are within walking distance. Therefore, when studying at ILA it easy to completely immerse yourself in the bustling city life of Montpellier. ILA is the sister of language school EasyFrench and the two schools share the same schoolbuilding and classrooms. The only difference between the two is the class size: at ILA you are in class with a maximum of 10 people and at EasyFrench there is a maximum of 12. Therefore the course prices at EasyFrench are a bit lower.

Montpellier

Elegant buildings, large private mansions, stately boulevards, bowery streets and beautiful sandy beaches: that is the stylish metropolis Montpellier. Montpellier is also the fastest growing city in France and one of the most multicultural cities. The historic old town has a medieval character. Go here to wander around between the historical, architectural delights and cozy bistros. Looking for a quiet place to study? The oldest botanical garden in France, the ‘Jardin des plantes’, is located in Montpellier and offers an oasis of peace during busy days of study. More than a third of the population in Montpellier is formed by students and they give a lively atmosphere to the day- and night life here. Because the city directly borders the Mediterranean Sea, you can alternate bustling city activities with relaxed beach days during your language course.

I took a short one week course to enhance my French and it was well worth the time at ILA! Really wonderful teachers, attentive staff and pleasant atmosphere to learn French, highly recommend! Also very sociable with weekly events that made it easier to meet new people and get to know Montpellier

After spending 6 weeks at ILA in 2021, I decided to return for 2022 for an additional 10 weeks. I am in the process of completing a master's degree in French/English translation, and ILA offers me the opportunity to improve my skills rapidly. I will be returning one more time in 2023 for an additional 10 weeks in preparation for the DALF C2 exam, before beginning my doctoral work here in France. I would highly recommend ILA to anyone at any level. The school is well-organized and the instructors are fantastic. Thank you!

I have attended the online hybrid-course at Level A2 for three weeks and I have to say it was absolutely worth the time and money. I was mostly self-taught before I attended this course and was seeking to get confident in speaking and listening skills in French. Although I was online my teachers did an amazing job, including me and the other zoom students in all exercises and the motivating atmosphere in the class room had a positive effect on me as well. The exercises were fun, but progress oriented, I was never bored nor overwhelmed, and I learned a lot about France, as well as the countries my classmates were from

I was placed by ILA in a homestay with bed bugs!!

I had to find my own lodging the first day of classes, $900 over my budget. They found me a homestay for the second week that I paid for but was told that if I found any bed bugs, I could not stay there. After spending the 1st week of classes laundering all off my clothes with no assistance from ILA, I found more bugs. I canceled the rest of my trip and they still have not refunded me for the 1 week homestay I never stayed at and the 1 week intensive course. I’ve sent two respectful emails that have gone unanswered.

Montpellier looked like it was close to the ocean. I was excited to walk to the beach every day after class. I’m really, it is dirty and expensive and takes about an hour to get to the ocean - a walk to the tram or bus station, a 20 minute bus and then another 20 minute walk.

The classes are interactive but the conversation class, which is the intensive course, is not worth the money. We spent an hour learning how to say “Peter Piper picked peppers” in the students’ native languages of German, Swiss, English, Portuguese and Czech.

This was a $3,000 2-week trip that turned into a $5000 1-week trip because of this school, ILA. Sadly, this was the worst travel experience I’ve ever had.

If I could redo my planning, I should have taken classes in Annecy or Nice. I’ve heard great things from students that have taken courses at both of these schools that were also disappointed with this French language school and the city of Montpellier.

I do not recommend this school or this location!! Go somewhere else if you can.

Dont do it! Very kind teacher BUT Inefficient teaching in the classes. Air in the classrooms is bad. Toilets are super tiny. Administration does not answer on complaints.

Cooking course is boring and you do not profit language wise.
