Bologna. The city where spaghetti bolognese thanks its name to, but where you will find not one restaurant with this world famous pasta on the menu. Why not? Purists from Bologna have a small aversion to the spaghetti bolognese which is inspired by their tagliatelle al ragu (without spaghetti, garlic and tomato) - which you will find everywhere on the menu. No surprise that food in Bologna is seen as a very serious matter. The Northern Italian city is often called the culinary capital of the country . Without doubt, you will find the best restaurants here. Besides this the city has two faces. On the one hand it is a hard-working high-tech city with chic neighborhoods, royal theaters and medieval gates, columns and buildings everywhere you look. On the other hand, you will find an edgy edge thanks to the many students from Bologna's university (the oldest in the world) who decorated Gothic squares with graffiti.
When you do a language course in Bologna a visit to one of the many famous Gothic cathedrals must be on your to do list. And do not forget to visit Quadrilatero. This compact district is a great place for strolling past market stalls and lively cafes with an abundance of gourmet delicacies.
