About the school

Learn to speak fluent Italian in a medieval palace in the middle of the historical center of Bologna. Sounds tempting? It is possible at language school Cultura Italiana, this school is located in the castle Palazzo Pepoli. Obviously, the historical details are also reflected in the cozy interior of the school, which feels homely: beautiful wooden school benches, lots of art, cheerful yellow walls and even a piano.Only 100 meters walking from the two most famous towers of Bologna: the Due Torri. Special about this school is that the teachers do their very best to encourage the students to surround themselves as much as possible with local Italians. After class, a lot of activities are organized: from city walks and history and art trips to culinary tours through a parmesan cheese factory or authentic vineyard. Students can also visit fashion fabrics or mechanical factories (Ducati, Maserati, Lamborghini, Ferrari). Cultura Italiana (1980) is the first school recognized by the Italian state as an "Italian language school for foreigners" and the lessons are of high quality.

Bologna

Bologna. The city where spaghetti bolognese thanks its name to, but where you will find not one restaurant with this world famous pasta on the menu. Why not? Purists from Bologna have a small aversion to the spaghetti bolognese which is inspired by their tagliatelle al ragu (without spaghetti, garlic and tomato) - which you will find everywhere on the menu. No surprise that food in Bologna is seen as a very serious matter. The Northern Italian city is often called the culinary capital of the country . Without doubt, you will find the best restaurants here. Besides this the city has two faces. On the one hand it is a hard-working high-tech city with chic neighborhoods, royal theaters and medieval gates, columns and buildings everywhere you look. On the other hand, you will find an edgy edge thanks to the many students from Bologna's university (the oldest in the world) who decorated Gothic squares with graffiti.

When you do a language course in Bologna a visit to one of the many famous Gothic cathedrals must be on your to do list. And do not forget to visit Quadrilatero. This compact district is a great place for strolling past market stalls and lively cafes with an abundance of gourmet delicacies.

We took a one week intensive course with very little prior Italian knowledge. The classes are all in Italian but the teachers are great at conveying the grammar and lessons to beginners. The teachers are also very engaged and welcoming. The school offers just enough extra activities, both free and at a reasonable extra cost. Wished we had stayed longer! We definitely recommend staying with a homestay family!

It is a very open and welcoming atmosphere in the school, the teachers are engaged and the lessons are on your level, even if you never learned Italian before.
In three weeks here I have learned more than I did a year at home. I’m definitely coming back to learn more!

The school was a good experience, with good teacher and beautiful classroom ( maybe little bit expensive ), and bologna it’s a really beautiful city, and the activities was good.
But for the room in a family, it was so weird. I was with old women in a small apartment, in a small bedroom not so clean without air conditioning in bologna ! It’s really hot city !
And the women was so negative with me ( don’t say hello, don’t speak with you, maybe sometimes for say to you, to cleaning better the kitchen).
At the finish of my trip, I say this thinks to her ( the price, the cleaning, the atmosphere), and do you what she say !
” If you wasn’t happy, you could go away”
Good school, but really bad logement !

I did a 4 weeks intensive course in agoust before my erasmus began, without knowing anything more than 'ciao' and 'grazie' and after the first week you can see important changes. Prices are not cheap, but the classmates from all countries that in this time are your familly and the teachers are the best you can have. The lessons method will make you forget that you are in a school, and you will learn quickly.

After one year I can say that in that time I made very good friends, we were like a family, and is a very important piece of my italian adventure, thanks to them I could understand university lessons without problems and do easier my life here in bologna.
