About the school

Language school LILA was founded in Liverpool in 2004 as an independent English academy by the two sisters Leanne Linacre and Victoria Lee. Leanne and Victoria found that there was a need for more quality schools in the north of England and Liverpool was the perfect choice. LILA is an innovative language school in the city center of Liverpool. It is a medium-sized school with a familiar atmosphere and the quality of education is key. The lessons are accredited by, among others, the British Council. The school is located in a modern building in a bustling street. You only have to step out the door to find cafes and restaurants. The interior of the school is practical and modern and the classrooms are bright thanks to the many windows. Also nice to know: the school organizes weekly social activities where students can practice the English language in an informal way.

Liverpool

There’s always something to do in Liverpool. The city, located in the west of Great Britain, has so much to offer: countless events and attractions, the world-class Liverpool Football Club, and the musical heritage that gave us the Beatles. With the second largest collection of museums and galleries in the whole of England (after London), culture is ever-present here. The city’s atmosphere is complex; while it has been plagued by social issues for decades, it’s also been an industrial and commercial epicenter, and the love Liverpoolians feel for their city is nearly palpable. Liverpool is an amazing place to learn English if you want to get a chance to explore this vibrant and exciting city.

I was at this school for a month and in summary I can say I would never go to this school again! The teachers are partly good and sometimes very bad. the administration is very bad. I had to wait one week to change my level and 3 weeks to switch from an evening course to a morning course. When I wanted to change my host family I had to pay 50 pounds. This school is really not recommended!

The administrative staff can not help overseas students, a big lack of knowledge about health system , visa and many kind of issues... They have to learn about it. Please be careful if you decide to study in Lila, a big surprise will appear. The teachers are amazing but this administrative things made your experience, far of home, a real nightmare ...

UPDATE 2: After a few more months wait the school contacted us to say they won't be running the classes and just refunded us the money. What a waste of time.

UPDATE: I have now been contacted by Cactus and offer a transfer to a Portuguese teacher, I will further update my review in the future.

I have signed up for Portuguese classes with Cactus Language School, which are based at Lila. I don't fully understand what's the connection between the two, if Cactus is just renting the space or it's the same thing.

I regret to say that this has been a disappointment so far. I signed up for a European Portuguese course and I was forcefully being taught Brazilian, to make the matter worse the teacher was absolutely rubbish. It's not only confusing, but frustrating due to the poor teaching skills. I felt like it's was not only a waste of money but also my time.

I have contacted the school with my feedback and the fact I want to learn Portuguese, not Brazilian, as well as the extremely poor level of the classes and after over a month of email exchange my transfer request has finally been granted by the Cactus Support Team.

My advise, until I see how the new lesson go, is to read the full page and send them an email about which language you want to learn, since for some reason they treat Brazilian and Portuguese as the same. It is not true that the difference is similar to the one between US END and UK ENG.

They could do with doing online distance learning language courses rather than classroom learning. I would definitely register if they did.

the academy of Liverpool is nice. Great facilities and good teachers. Conventional and traditional way of teaching but the teachers that I had the privilege to meet were fantastic and really dynamic. I have the Advance book almost new if one of you want it I can offer you a great bargain. just search me in facebook.
